The Clash's rendition of Police and Thieves has an entirely different feel to it when compared to the original, yet it works. That, my friends, is the hallmark of a good cover.

I was at a show where the original was playing over the sound system
before the headlining act (I think it was the Slackers) took the stage. The fellow behind me was telling his friend how
awesome this reggae cover of a Clash song was. I couldn't help but
shake my head in disgust at that statement. Ugh, music snobbery!
